Since joining the network in 2003, he has reported on and written about political races, trends, and issues -- including the 2003 California recall, the 2004 Bush-Kerry presidential race, the 2006 midterm elections, the 2008 presidential contest, the 2010 midterms, and the 2012 presidential race.
The blog he co-writes and co-edits, First Read, is a must-read for political reporting and commentary.
Murray also serves as a frequent on-air analyst on MSNBC and NBC affiliates, and has appeared in TV packages on NBC's "Nightly News," "Weekend Today" and NBC's "Weekend Nightly News." In his capacity as Senior Political Editor, he helps guide the network's political coverage, which won an Emmy award for Election Night 2008.
Before coming to NBC News, Murray spent more than five years as a reporter at the political magazine National Journal, and has written freelance articles for the New York Times op-ed page, the Atlantic Monthly, the Washington Monthly, and Washingtonian magazine.
Murray, a native Texan, is a 1996 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, and he resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife Sasha and son Caleb.
